You are on the website of the research center “Ethics in Antiquity and Christianity”. This center is part of the Faculty of Protestant Theology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

The center was founded in 2009. It brings together researchers from the fields of Old Testament Studies, New Testament Studies, Ancient Ecclesiastical History and Systematic Theology. It also works closely with researchers from other disciplines.

The aim is to find out how the foundations of ethics arose in antiquity – especially in early Christianity. The findings should also be important for today’s discussions and practical questions of ethics, for example in sport or bioethics.
